“A poor attitude to health and safety really can mean loss of life and livelihood. Under the new Corporate Manslaughter Bill individual directors and businesses alike may be liable for employee injury or death. Our highly experienced team has an excellent reputation for both defending and prosecuting cases relating to health and safety.” David Thompson, Managing Partner
We have a robust defence practice representing individuals, companies, directors and senior managers charged with offences under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other Health & Safety Regulations. We regularly appear in the Crown and Magistrates’ Court, at Inquests and at Public Inquiries. We have also represented clients facing prosecution by local authorities, the Department of Trading Standards, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and the Maritime Accident Investigation Agency. Major hearings are not always in our client’s best interests so where possible we work with authorities such as the Crown Prosecution Service and The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) to achieve the best possible settlement out of court.
We also undertake a wide range of prosecution and enforcement work on behalf of the HSE and the Verderers of the New Forest. We are regularly involved in high profile cases in the Crown Court.
Our expertise is consistently recognised by independent research. Chambers UK 2008 commented on our team as being "rated by peers for its prolific output in prosecutions" and that our lawyers "have an astonishing capability for retaining the details, and are excellent at motivating their clients".
